How to define Subnet and Mask

Postby XEyedBear » Tue Oct 18, 2011 9:54 am

I am struggling beyond my level of knowledge to set up Active Wall. The setup process is asking me to define my LAN scope in terms of Subnet and Mask. Having read the highly technical discussions of these topics on Wikipedia I have no idea what to enter into these fields.

If a scope is required, surely I need to supply a starting IP address and an ending IP address? But there is room for only one address.

I have no idea how to specify the mask.

The help page is no help at all; it says "fill in [Subnet] and [Mask]", but gives no information on what to fill them in with.

Is there any advice?

Example: your network uses IP range from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254
The LAN scope should be
subnet: 192.168.1.0
mask: 255.255.255.0

Here is the introduction of subnet and mask http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subnetwork
